VISION STATEMENT
The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, an organization founded in 1915, is dedicated to the promotion of peace and social justice, both locally and globally. We, the members of the Monterey County Branch, grounded in our belief in the equality of all people, and our shared hope of a peaceful, just world free of violence and war, continue to:
- Consider the peaceful resolution of conflicts to the moral obligation of all.
- Seek to end violence including armed conflict, torture, imperialism, exploitation, capital punishment, battery, and rape.
- Affirm the right of all people to live in a world free of racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, and all harmful discrimination.
- Advocate the transfer of vital resources from military to human needs.
- Support institutions that value the well-being of people over profit and that do not threaten the health or survival of our shared environment.
- Exercise our fundamental freedoms and inalienable rights, and work to protect these rights for all.
- Support access to community-held resources such as clean air, water and the public airwaves and basic human rights such as healthcare and education.
- Strive to attain true participatory democracy through accountability and honesty in electoral, legislative and public policy.
- Promote coalition building, informed activism, and grassroots democracy.
- Encourage and assist groups and individuals working for a just and peaceful world.
- Engage in non-violent protest and strategic action.
- Educate and empower our community through discussions, speakers, panels, films, publications, research and electronic media.
- Seek diversity in our membership and community activities.
- Provide a community of mutual support, friendship and empowerment as we work together for a better world.
