In Memoriam

We Remember Dianne Sammet, With gratitude for her many years of service and commitment to peace.

Diane SammetDianne Sammet, former WILPF Monterey County Chair, died spring 2009.

Dianne’s commitment to peace and her opposition to the death penalty led her to join WILPF in the 1970’s. “I abhor violence. War is never a solution,” she said. She praised WILPF for its focus on social justice. “The death penalty, women’s rights, minimum wage, immigration, and prison reform; WILPF believes in justice for all.”

“In WILPF, I meet people who think like me. I was active in Beyond War and attended a Peace Camp where I met life-long friends.” With friends from WILPF and the peace movement, Dianne said, “I realized you can go through anything. There’s nothing better than finding someone you can talk to, that you agree with, and who validates your thoughts and position. I’m grateful to have such good friends.”

Dianne said she sometimes lost hope but never stopped trying. “I want people to care about each other, their neighbors, the environment, and to follow the golden rule.”

Thank you, Dianne.
